Why the file doesn't appear where you expect
When you ask the AI to generate a file — for example "Create a Word file of this document" or when code execution produces a spreadsheet — the file is not placed in the Canvas and may not be immediately visible in the chat thread. It is stored in a specific location in the Files section.
Where to find your file
Files → Project Chat Files → [name of the chat]. In the left sidebar, click Files. Open the Project Chat Files folder, then open the subfolder named after the chat where the file was generated. Your file will be there.
Collapsed code execution block in the chat. If the AI used code execution to create the file, look for a collapsed block (a small bar or arrow) in the chat thread just below the AI's reply. Click it to expand and reveal the download link.
Quick tip: use search
You can also use the search function in the left menu to search for the filename if you know what it was called.
Note on the Download button
The Download button on the canvas export panel always generates a PDF. It does not produce a Word or Excel file. Generated .docx or .xlsx files are only available via the Files section or the collapsed code execution block in the chat, as described above.
