Why does this happen?
Sometimes the AI confirms in chat that it has made an edit ("I've updated section 3…"), but when you look at the Canvas the text is unchanged. This usually happens when:
The AI partially hallucinated the change instead of applying it.
The Canvas–chat sync didn't register the new version.
The model ran into a context limit for a very long document.
How to fix it in under a minute
Switch the AI model. Open the model selector at the bottom of the chat and pick a different model (for example, switch from the fast model to the high-quality model, or vice-versa).
Ask for the full document again. Instead of asking for a small edit, prompt: "Please rewrite the entire document including all the changes we discussed." The AI then returns the complete updated text that lands in the Canvas.
Export to Word as a fallback. If the Canvas still refuses to update, type in chat: "Please create a Word file with the full document and all changes." You get a downloadable
.docxyou can import back into the project.
Prevention
Review the Canvas after each major edit instead of waiting until the end.
For long documents, ask the AI to work on one section at a time.
Save a copy to your project regularly so you always have a safe version to roll back to.
